China’s GAC Aion has officially launched the new Hyper HT SUV just a week after images of the intriguing EV first surfaced online. It will be sold alongside the Hyper GT and the Hyper SSR in GAC Aion’s ‘Hyper’ range of models.

The entry-level version of the Hyper HT is underpinned by a 400-volt architecture and while we don’t yet know the size of its battery pack, we do know this model uses an electric motor at the rear axle with 241 hp (180 kW) and 262 lb-ft (355 Nm) of torque. While these aren’t groundbreaking numbers, they’re apparently enough to propel the SUV to 62 mph (100 km/h) in a respectable 6.8 seconds. GAC Aion also says this version can travel 373 miles (600 km) on the Chinese test cycle and that 87 miles (140 km) of range can be added with a 10-minute charge.

Three other versions of the Hyper HT will be offered, all of which have a more advanced 800-volt system. Additionally, these three models have the same 335 hp (250 kW) and 317 lb-ft (430 Nm) electric motor that drops the 0-100 km/h time to 5.8 seconds. Two of these versions can travel 416 miles (670 km) on a charge and offer rapid charging that can add 258 miles (415 km) of range in just 15 minutes. The flagship model has its range boosted to 479 miles (770 km) and gets 280 miles (450 km) of range with a 10-minute charge. This model is also the only one that comes with LiDAR sensors.

GAC Aion Hyper HT Launched With 400-Volt And 800-Volt Options, Up To 335 HP

Data released by China’s Ministry of Industry and Information Technology earlier this month revealed that the Hyper HT measures 4,935 mm (194.2 inches) in length, 1,920 mm (75.5 inches) in width, and 1,700 mm (66.9 inches) in height while riding on a 2,935 mm (115.5-inch) wheelbase.

The exterior design of the SUV is relatively subtle. The front end has a pair of simple headlights, small air curtains, and a thin lower grille bordered by slightly creased surfaces. Without a doubt, the design highlight of the Hyper HT is the Tesla Model X-inspired gullwing doors it has in the second row.

Found inside the cabin of the Hyper HT is a stylish flat-bottom steering wheel and a digital instrument cluster. The SUV also has a large central infotainment display, two wireless charging pads, and a floating center console with a large storage cubby underneath. Occupants sitting in the rear can recline their seats and deploy a small footrest from the back of the front seats. Additionally, the front passenger seat can fold down flat and morph into a space that lets the rear passenger really stretch out. A full panoramic glass roof is also fitted as standard.

Pricing details have not yet been announced.
