The Audi R8 is being killed after the 2023 model year but a special road-going version based around the R8 GT3 race car is just around the corner and will send off the car in style.

This most insane of all Audi R8 variations is being brought to life by racing outfit Scherer Sport which races the R8 GT3 and also offers a host of aftermarket tuning upgrades for Audi models. It is unclear if Audi itself is involved in the process of turning the R8 GT3 into a street car but our spy photographers recently snapped Scherer’s wild creation during recent tests at the Nurburgring.

It is understood that many components of the road car will be lifted straight from the Audi R8 GT3 Evo II racer. From an aerodynamic standpoint, we can see that the car has a revised front fascia with a large splitter and canards, similar to those of the R8 GT3 Evo II but not quite identical. Scherer Sport has also crafted a unique hood for the R8 and equipped it with louvers on the front wheel arches just like the race car.

We can also see that this prototype is rocking center-locking wheels and has unique side skirts complete with NACA ducts at the rear, just like on the race car. Perhaps the most notable difference between this car and the racer is that this one has a massive roof scoop to feed cold air into the engine bay, helping to cool the 5.2-liter naturally-aspirated V10. The rear end also features a unique wing similar to that of the R8 GT3 Evo II but slightly smaller and better for street use.

Our sources tell us that Scherer Sport plans to sell 100 examples of its motorsport-derived R8 V10. Given that production of the R8 is about to wrap up, we presume the team will sell its wild upgrades as an upgrade package for existing Audi R8s, rather than building the cars from the ground-up.
