We like stealthy sleeper cars, but it’s always seemed strange that even Tesla’s fastest cars look virtually identical to its ordinary models. Performance – and even Plaid – models only have a handful of discrete visual tells, unlike AMG, Audi RS and BMW M cars, or new EV performance cars like the Hyundai Ioniq 5 N, which telegraph their potential on the outside with aggressive body kits and carry the theme through to the interior with attractive, hip-hugging sports seats.

An imaged leaked to Reddit apparently showing a new design of Tesla sports seats suggests that policy is changing. The single picture only shows the upper portion of the seat but it’s clearly a more performance-focused chair than the ones currently available in Tesla’s cars. We can see wider shoulder wings and a mix of fabrics that places perforated leather on most of the surfaces, but grippy microfiber on the side bolsters to help keep the driver (and passenger) in place.

There’s also what looks like a Plaid logo beneath the integrated head restraint, suggesting that these seats are bound for the fastest Model S, though it’s possible that the same seats may end up on new super-fast versions of the Model 3 and Model Y. While diving into Tesla’s code, one brand fan calling himself Green learned that the Model 3 would soon be offered in both Base and Sport flavors, with pictures of the Sport interior showing seats just like the ones in the image above.

And according to the Not A Tesla App website, brand fan The Kilowatts uncovered a Tesla parts catalog that revealed the existence of a new performance-focused Model 3 that would serve the same purpose as the Plaid models in the S and X lines. But because this new Model 3 would stick with a dual-motor setup, albeit an upgraded one, rather than get a tri-motor arrangement as on the Plaid cars, it could be named Ludicrous (he originally thought it would be called Plaid).

Tesla has previously used Ludicrous as the name for its sportiest driving mode, and both it and the Plaid tag come from cult 1980s sci-fi comedy Spaceballs. The Kilowatts claims that the parts catalog shows the new go-faster Model 3 will also get upgraded brakes, wheels and suspension.
