SEMA is a show defined by its over-the-top location (Las Vegas) and its over-the-top show cars. Although Toyota is no exception, the relatively humble TRD Performance Package will likely be the most interesting and relevant thing it reveals at the show to real Tundra buyers.

Revealed at SEMA today, the performance package for the Tundra will add an extra 32 hp (24 kW/32.5 PS) to either the base i-Force V6, or the more powerful i-FORCE MAX powertrain, all without affecting customers’ factory warranties.

The base engine will go from producing 389 hp (290 kW/394 PS) to churning out 421 hp (314 kW/427 PS), while the i-FORCE MAX sees its peak power increase from 437 hp (326 kW/443 PS) to 469 hp (350 kW/475 PS). In addition, although peak torque remains at 479 lb-ft (649 Nm), it is reached 400 RPM sooner, at 2,000 RPM.

Toyota’s TRD Performance Pack Gives Tundra 469 HP Under Warranty

The extra power is possible thanks to a selection of modifications that increased airflow to the turbochargers. Engineers added larger high-flowing dual intakes, and a cat-back exhaust to increase flow and reduce back pressure.

Finally, Toyota optimized the engine management calibration to take advantage of the new hardware. However, with the TRD Performance Package, the Tundra must use 91 octane premium fuel, which may hurt owners at the pump.

With unique throttle tuning, and the exciting exhaust note provided by the new cat-back system, Toyota says that Tundra owners will be treated to sporty sounds and performance, to highlight the extra power that it is capable of generating.

The package also comes with added visual elements, like special badging on the tailgate, and unique exhaust tips. Toyota plans to install the TRD Performance Package at the factory, as a $3,400 extra. It will be available to shoppers buying a new Tundra early next year, but Toyota is also working to offer it as a dealer-installed package for people who already own their Tundra.
