It has been less than 12 months since Mercedes-AMG unveiled the GT2 for gentlemen racers and already, it has superseded it with a slightly more potent version dubbed the GT2 Pro. The non-homologated race car is limited to private track days and targets those wealthy individuals who can afford to splash their cash on an expensive and uber-exclusive track toy.

The new Mercedes-AMG GT2 Pro is based around the first-generation AMG GT, rather than the new 2024 model that was unveiled earlier this year. It is powered by the firm’s 4.0-liter twin-turbocharged V8 and churns out 697 hp, the same as the GT2 model introduced in 2022. The key difference is that AMG has now implemented a Push2Pass function that temporarily lifts grunt to 739 horses.

Coupled with the boosted V8 is a six-speed sequential racing transmission mounted on the rear axle in a transaxle configuration with modified gear ratios. The car also features a carbon fiber torque tube and sends its power exclusively through the rear wheels. Suspension improvements have also been made from last year’s car as the GT2 Pro now has four-way adjustable shocks rather than three-way adjustable shocks.

Mercedes-AMG GT2 Pro Is A Special Track Toy That Costs $508k

Elsewhere, Mercedes-AMG has tweaked the track car’s aerodynamics with new rear wing endplates. It has also developed new 18-inch wheels for the GT2 Pro that are offered in two paint finishes and complemented with a standard matte grey paint shop with decorative stripes and logos.

A series of changes have also been made to the car’s interior. For example, there is a new steering wheel with additional controls, air conditioning, and exclusive stitching on the seats. The matte grey dashboard of last year’s car has also been replaced by a matte carbon fiber dashboard. All buyers will also receive a special car cover, an individualized Bell helmet, and a full race apparel kit from Puma that includes a custom race suit, gloves, underwear, and shoes.

Prospective customers will need to splurge €479,000 (~$508,000) on the car, a €70,000 (~$74,000) premium over the GT2. They will be able to participate in the exclusive AMG Racing Series that includes exclusive track days throughout Europe. Mercedes-AMG will also provide comprehensive racing support and additional services like a personal engineer and spare parts supply for an additional fee.
