Ford Is Working On New Derivatives Of Popular Maverick And Bronco Nameplates

Ford’s product team has been on a bit of a hot streak, introducing the hugely popular Bronco, Bronco Sport, and Maverick in recent years. Now, the automaker says it wants to capitalize on that success by adding more variants to the model lines in the coming years.

Ford revealed its plan while announcing its third-quarter financial results. In a release, the automaker said that it is “rolling out new derivatives of its iconic nameplates.” It specified that these new products included the Ranger Raptor, the Mustang GTD, as well as “new extensions of the Bronco and Maverick nameplates.”

Ford called these models “hugely popular with customers” and said that they generate high revenue and margins for the brand in a release first reported on by Ford Authority. Although it remains unclear what Ford is talking about, specifically, there are hints as to what the blue oval might be thinking about.

The truck was spotted sporting street-oriented performance modification back in spy shots and concept form in 2022. It is suggested that since the Maverick is based on the same platform as the Focus, it might get an ST model that uses its chassis-mate’s 2.3-liter turbocharge gasoline engine, which makes 276 hp (206 kW/280 PS) across the pond.

Back in 2021, Ford CEO Jim Farley said he could “envision a family of Maverick variants, including an electric model.” However, the automaker has scaled back its EV ambitions somewhat since then.

More recently, trademarks for a “Maverick Lobo” have recently been found. Unfortunately, it remains unclear what Ford is planning for that nameplate. It is equally unclear what new models might be coming to the Bronco family, or indeed if Ford was talking about the Bronco or the Bronco Sport in its Q3 report.

We’ll have to wait and see what the Ford has planned for the models, though whatever comes, it’s sure to be interesting.
