The first official trailer for the highly anticipated sixth installment in the Grand Theft Auto (GTA) franchise is set to release in early December. The announcement comes from no less a source than Sam Houser, the president of Rockstar Games, the studio behind the famed franchise.

The executive, who is seen by many as the driving force behind the GTA series, made the announcement in a blog post published today. The timing of the release coincides with Rockstar Games’ 25 anniversary.

“Rockstar Games was founded on the idea that video games could come to be as essential to culture as any other form of entertainment, and we hope that we have created games you love in our efforts to be part of that evolution,” Houser wrote. “We are very excited to let you know that in early December, we will release the first trailer for the next Grand Theft Auto.”

Gamers have been waiting for the next GTA VI game for a very long time. The followup to Grand Theft Auto V, the second-best selling video game of all time, it has now been more than 10 years since that game was released.

Anticipation was particularly high this week, following the publication of Take Two Interactive Software Inc.’s financial statements. Bloomberg reports that the company, which owns Rockstar Games, was anticipating more than $8 billion in revenue in its next fiscal year, which starts in April 2024.

The forecast reflect “our confidence in the pipeline,” the company wrote. The size of the anticipated bump in revenue led to speculation that the company would release the next installment in its biggest franchise, GTA, in its upcoming fiscal year.

Although we don’t yet know exactly when the next Grand Theft Auto game will be released, we do know that it will take place in a fictionalized version of Miami, thanks to a previous leak. An older installment of the game also took place in a fictionalized version of the Florida city, and it was called “Vice City.” For the first time in the series, gamers will be able to play as a female character.
