The Hyundai Motor Group has sold more than 100,000 battery-electric vehicles in the United States underpinned by its E-GMP platform introduced locally in 2021.

Hyundai’s first E-GMP model to land in the U.S. was the retro Ioniq 5 and it has since been followed by the Ioniq 6, the Kia EV6, and the Genesis GV60. Automotive group Sunday reports that between December 2021 and October this year, some 101,976 BEVs using the E-GMP platform had been sold stateside.

Unsurprisingly, the Ioniq 5 has proven to be the strongest seller, shifting 51,240 units compared to the 36,838 of the EV6, the 9,557 examples of the Ioniq 6 that have been sold, and the 4,161 Genesis GV60s to have found homes in the U.S.

Hyundai and Kia E-GMP EVs Surpass 100,000 Sales In The US

The Korea Times reports that the Hyundai Motor Group has sold a total of 77,772 EVs in the U.S. through October this year. This represents a 53.7% increase over the same period last year and includes sales of non-E-GMP-based models, such as the Hyundai Kona Electric, Genesis GV70 Electrified, and Genesis G80 Electrified. Hyundai itself sold 51,564 stateside in the first 10 months of the year while Kia sold 26,208 units.

“We will continue to increase our sales and brand awareness in the U.S. EV market by expanding our product lineup, including the launch of Kia’s EV9 at the end of this year, and by implementing active sales strategies that match the market situation,” a Hyundai Motor Group spokesperson said.

The South Korean automotive giant expects to see local sales of its EVs rise during the second half of the decade. In October last year, Hyundai broke ground on a dedicated electric vehicle factory in Georgia that will have an annual capacity of 300,000 vehicles and build vehicles for the Hyundai, Kia, and Genesis brands from 2025.
