Mercedes-AMG introduced the redesigned GT in August and now they’re preparing to expand the lineup with a new entry-level variant.

Designed to slot beneath the GT 55 and GT 63, the upcoming model has a unique front bumper with more traditional intakes. The changes don’t end there as the prototypes eschew vertical front fender vents.

The modest intentions are reflected by a more conservative rear bumper, which skips the vertical vents found on high-performance variants. We can also see restrained exhaust setups as the blue prototype has a four-tailpipe system, while the white model has a temporary dual exhaust.

Spy photographers didn’t get close enough for interior snaps, but the cabin should largely carryover. This means we can expect a 12.3-inch digital instrument cluster and an 11.9‑inch infotainment system with a portrait orientation. The model should also offer a rear seat, which is “suitable for occupants less than five feet tall.”

Since the GT and SL are closely related, we’re likely looking at the GT 43. In the convertible, the model has a turbocharged 2.0-liter four-cylinder with 375 hp (280 kW / 380 PS) and 354 lb-ft (479 Nm) of torque. The hybridized powertrain is connected to a nine-speed gearbox, which enables the car to accelerate from 0-60 mph (0-96 km/h) in 4.8 seconds.

While a number of questions remain, we can expect the entry-level variant to be introduced next year. It will be joined by a high-performance plug-in hybrid, which was recently previewed by the GT E Performance concept.
