The design of the new BMW 5-Series is a significant departure from its predecessor, but when compared to the model depicted in these renderings, the standard car actually appears rather subdued.

These illustrations are the work of ildar_project and bmw_heart on Instagram and depict the new four-door sedan with an over-the-top bodykit akin to what we’d expect a company like Mansory to produce sometime in the future. It’s brash and unapologetic and if a kit like this is ever to reach the light of day, it could prove quite popular among those BMW owners who really want to make a statement.

Modifications commence at the front end, where a new splitter has been integrated into the bumper, lending it a significantly more aggressive appearance. The standard kidney grille has been blacked out, and the headlights have been tinted, resulting in a rather sinister aesthetic. Among all the changes applied to the front end, the installation of an extravagant new hood stands out as the most striking feature.

Elsewhere, the Beemer has been fitted with a set of black aftermarket wheels and sits on gold brake calipers. The ride height has also been dropped, new wing mirrors fitted, and unique side skirts attached. Modifications made to the rear of the 5-Series are slightly less dramatic than those at the front but do include a large lip spoiler and an overt diffuser that includes thin LED lights.

While it will likely take an aftermarket tuner to create a 5-Series that looks this bold, BMW itself is readying a new M5 for production. This new model is expected to have the same hybrid powertrain as the BMW XM which would mean a 4.4-liter twin-turbocharged V8 working alongside an electric motor. In the M5, this powertrain may deliver over 800 hp, giving the car enough grunt to rival the Mercedes-AMG GT 63 S E Performance with its 831 hp and 1,023 lb-ft (1,400 Nm) of torque.
