General Motors has issued two separate recalls in the United States that impact the Cadillac Lyriq, Chevrolet Silverado EV, and both the GMC Hummer EV and GMC Hummer EV SUV.

The first of the two recalls involves a total of 43 examples of the 2023-2024 Cadillac Lyriq that were manufactured between March 14, 2023, and July 22, 2023. GM has revealed that these vehicles may have a rear seat belt bracket that was improperly welded to the seat frame by the seat frame supplier.

The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) notes that an improperly welded rear seat belt bracket may not perform as intended in certain crash conditions, increasing the risk of injury. GM says owners should not use the rear left seat and center seat until the problem is fixed. Owners will be alerted to the recall from January 8, 2024, and asked to take their vehicle to a dealer where the rear seat cushion frame will be replaced free of charge.

A total of 115 vehicles from the GMC and Chevrolet brands are impacted by the recall. It involves 2023-2024 Hummer EV models built between February 16, 2023, and July 27, 2023, as well as 2024 GMC Hummer EV SUV models assembled from February 2, 2023, to July 21, 2023. Three examples of the 2024 Chevrolet Silverado EV built from April 24, 2023, to July 18, 2023, are also included in the recall.

This second recall is also seat-related, albeit the front seats. The notice says that impacted vehicles may have a left or right front seat that has a seat belt buckle attachment bolt that may not have been tightened to specification by the seat supplier.

Owners of these impacted vehicles will also be contacted from January 8, 2024. Dealers will fix the issue by simply tightening the left and right front seat belt buckle attachment bolts.
