Bad software means that once an Infiniti QX60 driver exceeds 81 mph, their headlight beams suddenly move to the most downward angle

A software issue in certain Infiniti QX60s means that if the headlights are in auto mode, they may unexpectedly start pointing down at the worst possible moment. If that occurs, the forward visibility could be reduced, so the automaker must recall the crossover.
The problem affects 20,051 QX60s from the 2022-2024 model years. The tilt value of the Adaptive Front-Light System was inadvertently entered incorrectly, causing them to revert to their most downward angle under certain circumstances.
Infiniti first learned of this issue in December 2022, when it received a complaint from a customer. It initiated an investigation, and found that a programming accident in the Intelligent Power Distribution Module (IPDM) was to blame.

It found that if an affected QX60 goes faster than 81 mph (130 km/h), the IPDM switches the headlight leveling system to highway mode. That’s all well and good, but the problem is that the tilt value is incorrect, which causes the headlights to point as far down as they can, limiting forward visibility just as you need it most.
Fortunately, if the vehicle reduces its speed to less than 81 mph (130 km/h), or the driver switches over the headlight mode, rather than the Auto mode, the problem should rectify itself. However, given the danger of suddenly reducing a fast-driving vehicle’s field of view, Infiniti is launching a recall campaign to remedy the issue.
The automaker plans to start reaching out to owners on January 12, and they will be invited to return their vehicle to a dealer, where a technician will reconfigure the IPDM setting to their correct values at no charge. Infiniti is aware of 14 warranty claims related to this problem, but no accidents or injuries.
