Shortly after images of the next-generation Lancia Ypsilon emerged online following a crash of a lightly disguised prototype into a canal in France, a pair of intriguing renderings were released, to give us a better look at the car that will basically revive the Lancia brand.

The current Ypsilon has been in production since 2011 but spent most of its career in its home market in Italy. The all-new generation of the Italian hatchback is (thankfully…) set to look quite a bit different than its predecessors.

One of the most striking elements of the new Ypilson present in these images is the front fascia. Lancia recently teased the overhauled front end of the car, revealing that it will have an intriguing LED light bar arranged in the shape of a Y. These LEDs are present in these renderings and help ensure the car stands out from the Peugeot 208 and Opel Corsa with which it shares its underpinnings.

The front of the new-age Lancia also includes darkened headlight clusters and lacks a traditional grille, instead opting for a large black grille at the base of the front bumper.

Elsewhere, these renderings depict the car with gloss black wheel arches, black wing mirrors, and a black roof. The overall shape of the car is also quite similar to the Peugeot 208 and it has a particularly striking rear end with circular LED taillights very similar to those of the Pu+Ra HPE concept that Lancia unveiled earlier this year. Kolesa’s renderings also depict it with a prominent Lancia badge on the rear with a 3D effect.

The new Lancia Ypsilon is expected to be sold exclusively with a 51 kWh battery pack which drives a single electric motor with 154 hp, offering roughly 248 miles (400 km) of range.

Note: While based on the leaked photos, these independent renderings are not endorsed by Lancia.
