It’s been less than a month since Japanese consumers were provided with their first taste of the facelifted 2024 Toyota Land Cruiser 70 and now a one-off version of the legendary off-roader will be showcased at January’s Tokyo Auto Salon.
The special Land Cruiser 70 has been brought to life by Toyota Auto Body, a manufacturing subsidiary of the carmaker. The new Land Cruiser special has been bathed in matte black paint and features a range of off-road accessories.

One of the most obvious alterations made to this Land Cruiser 70 is the fitment of a snorkel that will help it wade through deep waters without drivers having to worry about the engine getting hydrolocked. It also has a revised front bumper that can support a winch and is rocking a set of wing mirrors with a chrome finish. While these mirrors look good on a show car, they would not be the best option for a serious off-roading enthusiast.
Toyota has also equipped the Land Cruiser 70 with a large roof rack and has installed clear lenses on the front turn signals as opposed to the orange lenses they have from the factory. Black wheels with a chrome barrel and clad-in off-road tires have also been fitted. A J40 Land Cruiser will be displayed alongside it.
Interestingly, Toyota axed the Land Cruiser 70 from the Japanese market in 2015 due to safety regulations but has reintroduced it with the facelifted version. It is powered by a new 2.8-liter four-cylinder turbodiesel engine that is rated at 201 hp and 369 lb-ft (500 Nm) of torque. Coupled with this engine is a six-speed automatic transmission.
