The vehicles have been driven, the votes have been cast, and now the winners have been announced. The Toyota Prius, the Ford F-Series Super Duty, and the Kia EV9 are North America’s Car, Truck, and Utility Vehicle of the Year (NACTOY).

The results were announced today, and the winners were selected by a jury of 50 journalists from across North America. The 30th anniversary of the NACTOY awards, the winner in the truck of the year category has earned the prize many times since the awards were founded.

In fact, this is the fourth straight year that a Ford product has won North American Truck of the Year. The F-150 Lightning won in 2023, the Maverick won in 2022, and the F-150 earned top honors in 2021. The 2024 winner, the F-Series Super Duty, beat out the Chevrolet Colorado, and the all-electric Chevrolet Silverado EV, to take the prize this year with 189 votes.

“We are so proud that Super Duty has earned the prestigious Truck of the Year award from the NACTOY jury, especially among a strong lineup of other finalists,” said Andrew Kernahan, Super Duty chief program engineer. “It represents the relentless dedication our teams have to our customers and endless hours they’ve poured into designing, engineering and building Super Duty pickups and chassis cabs to be the ultimate ‘built Ford tough’ tool for work and recreation.”

The Hyundai group is also no stranger to this award, and its vehicles (eventually) locked out the utility vehicle segment. With 320 votes, the Kia EV9 took the top spot this year, ahead of the Genesis Electrified GV70 and the Hyundai Kona/Kona EV. However, there is an asterisk to that lockout, as the jury originally selected the Volvo EX30 as a finalist in the segment, but its place was taken by the Kona after production delays caused Volvo to pull its entry out of contention for this year.

“The Kia EV9 represents a new paradigm in the three-row SUV segment,” said Seungkyu (Sean) Yoon, president and CEO, Kia North America and Kia America. “For the second consecutive year, the three finalists have been EVs or included EVs as part of a larger lineup, which illustrates where the segment is headed. This win proves that EV9 is not only a top utility vehicle, but also an exemplary EV.”

Finally, the North American Car of the Year is the Prius/Prius Prime with 192 votes. This is the first time that Toyota has won the award since 2004, and jurors selected it over the Honda Accord and the Hyundai Ioniq 6.
