The new Ford Ranger has achieved the distinction of being the best-selling new vehicle in Australia for 2023. This marks the first time a Ford vehicle has claimed the top spot since 1995.

In 2023, Ford sold a total of 63,356 Ranger vehicles, marking a significant 33% increase compared to the previous year. This impressive performance placed the Ranger ahead of the Toyota HiLux, which delivered 61,111 units but experienced a decline from the 64,391 units sold in 2022. The Toyota HiLux had held the title of Australia’s best-seller for seven consecutive years, but the introduction of the latest-generation Ranger proved to be a winning move for Ford.

Trailing the Ranger and HiLux as Australia’s third best-selling vehicle was the Isuzu D-Max, another pickup truck, with 31,202 units sold. It was followed by the Toyota RAV4, MG ZS, Tesla Model Y, Toyota Land Cruiser, Mitsubishi Outlander, Mazda CX-5, and Hyundai Tucson, rounding out the top-selling vehicles in Australia for the year.

“There are so many people who play a role in the success of a vehicle,” president and chief executive of Ford Australia Andrew Birkic said. “For Ranger, that’s our team of designers, engineers and everyone at Ford who pours their passion into making the vehicle what it is, our dealers who are passionate about serving their customers and communities, and ultimately our Ranger customers whose passion for their vehicle is what gets us up in the morning.”

The overall new car market across Australia also reached new heights with more than 1.2 million vehicles sold, the highest number on record.

Retaining its position as the nation’s best-selling brand was Toyota with 215,240 sales, placing it ahead of Mazda with 100,008 sales. Rounding out the remaining spots in the top 10 were Ford, Kia, Hyundai, Mitsubishi, MG, Tesla, Subaru, and Isuzu.
