Being responsible for a large fleet of new cars comes with its challenges. On one hand, you want to show off your shiny new products to the world so that they might consider buying one for themselves. On the other hand, displaying cars tends to leave them vulnerable to misadventures, as a recent crash involving four Lucid Airs and a single Dodge Challenger demonstrates.

The incident occurred in Houston, Texas, outside of Lucid’s service and delivery center. The building is situated just off Interstate 45, adjacent to a feeder road called North Freeway Service Road. While it is not quite clear what led to the crash, social media videos of the aftermath show that the road was quite wet, indicating that slippery conditions, among other things, may have played a role in this unfortunate incident.

The video suggests that the four Lucid Air EVs were parked side by side, and had been backed into their parking spots. It appears that the Dodge Challenger veered off the road, crossed over the patch of grass separating the lot from the road, and crashed into the back of the electric sedans.

The force of the crash must have been significant, as three of the four Airs have been knocked out of their spots and spun to varying degrees. The trunk of one of the cars appears to have been torn clean off. We have reached out to Lucid for more information on this incident and will update this story when we hear back.

Unfortunately, due to the extent of the damage, it’s challenging to determine which trim level(s) of the Lucid Air were destroyed in this accident. However, the cheapest model in the lineup starts at $77,400 but can go up to $250,000, meaning that the four vehicles involved were collectively valued at a minimum of $310,00. As a result, we imagine the Challenger driver’s insurer will be going over its contract with a fine tooth comb.

Fortunately (and somewhat miraculously), no one was injured in this incident, the Harris County Sheriff’s office told The Autopian. It is not yet clear if the driver has been cited.
