Well, if you were desperately searching for that last-minute Valentine’s Day gift and just couldn’t come up with anything, fear not – Mercedes-Benz has your back. Behold the G-Class “Stronger Than Diamonds Edition,” because nothing says “I love you” like a house on wheels adorned with 25-carat diamonds. Limited to a mere 300 units, because obviously, you don’t want to overdo it with such extravagance.

Admittedly, the G-Class is not exactly synonymous with romance, but hey, who needs roses when you can have diamonds, right?

Mercedes claims it chose the big G for its “resilience and unparalleled endurance,” as evidently, enduring love is now measured in horsepower and off-road capabilities. And thus, the campaign “A love that lasts forever. Stronger than diamonds” was born.

The diamond-themed off-roader is coated in rosewood grey magno, a bespoke color created exclusively for this special edition by the Manufaktur personalization program. However, the pièce de résistance is the incorporation of 25-carat diamonds adorning all four stainless steel door locking pins. Mercedes will provide owners with a Responsible Jewellery Council (RJC) certificate stating that all diamonds in the G-Wagen originate from “ethically, socially and ecologically responsible sources”.

Setting aside the shiny rocks, the interior is adorned in black nappa leather with rose contrasting stitching. Deep-pile floor mats will make your feet feel right at home, while “Stronger Than Diamonds” badges can be found on the illuminated sills and the passenger grab handle.

The key also has a silver badge with the name of the special edition around a diamond insignia, and additional diamond emblems are embossed on the door handles. Last but not least, the SUV comes with a matching indoor car cover so you can tell it apart from other G-Class units in your collection.

Interestingly, the model is based on the Mercedes-Benz G500 rather than the AMG-branded G63. Nonetheless, the stock twin-turbo 4.0-liter V8 engine delivers a respectable 416 horsepower (310 kW / 421 PS) and 610 Nm (450 lb-ft) of torque. Power is distributed to all four wheels through a nine-speed automatic gearbox.

Each of the 300 units of the Mercedes G-Class “Stronger Than Diamonds Edition” comes with a hefty price tag of €175,000 ($187,800) in Germany, making it a rather extravagant “token of love.” To put this into perspective, the regular G500 starts from €130,204 ($139,713) in the same market, indicating that the “Manufaktur” treatment and the addition of diamonds command a premium of €45,000 ($48,287).

It’s worth noting that Mercedes is on the brink of unveiling the facelifted version of the G-Class, with the debut expected in the first quarter of 2024.
