There’s another way to accelerate delivery of your Cybertruck, but Tesla fans aren’t thrilled about it

When Tesla initially delivered its first batch of Cybertrucks to customers, it cautioned that the remaining reservation holders would experience delays. However, the company is now providing another avenue for customers to expedite their delivery: by redeeming their referral credits.
In a message delivered to Tesla owners through the automaker’s app, it stated that people can “redeem referral credits to accelerate [their] Cybertruck Delivery.” The cost associated with this offer is 30,000 credits.
“Be invited to configure and take delivery of your Foundation Series All-Wheel Drive or Cyberbeast within 45 days of redemption,” the offer, which was posted to the Cybertruck Owners Club forum by user Rodx, reads. “If you miss your chance to claim, check back later— additional accelerated deliveries will be added.”

The message also emphasizes that Cybertruck buyers can only redeem their credits once and that they are non-transferable. It highlights that there is a limited quantity of trucks and, consequently, acceleration codes available, and specifies that this promotion is exclusively available in the U.S.

For those who are not intimately familiar with Tesla’s loyalty programs, Referral Credits are given to owners who encourage their friends and family to buy one of the automaker’s electric vehicles. New buyers can use an existing owner’s referral code when they purchase a new vehicle or test drive one, and the owner received credits. This scheme has not been without controversy

While some early adopters will doubtless appreciate the opportunity to receive their Cybertruck more quickly, the offer is being received skeptically, even by members of the Cybertruck Owners Club forum. In a thread below the original post, user Gigahorse writes that this is “another way for people to skip the line, or take the hit of early adoption of the [Cybertruck] V 1.0.”
Others seem unimpressed by the promise of delivery in 45 days. User CyberTruckeeTheOne writes that their vehicle is already supposed to arrive in fewer days, and that “if they can promise to deliver tomorrow, the then I might [sic].”
User seadsmoney calls the promotion “mystifying,” pointing out that the Foundation Series program (which adds $20,000 to the price of the electric truck) is “already supposed to be an accelerated delivery.” Finally, user Travis64 complained that “this is BS,” and wondered if those skipping the line with their Referral Credits would push their order back to 2025.
