The 2024 edition of the Polestar Design Contest has arrived, and this year, the Chinese-owned Swedish brand will work with Hot Wheels. Contestants are invited to submit designs that are “propelled by the imagination of their youth.”
Polestar has been hosting its annual Design Contest since 2020, and last year’s winning designs were incorporated into the impressive Synergy electric hypercar concept. Continuing this tradition, the winning design from this year’s contest will also be transformed into a 1:64 scale Hot Wheels model.
Entrants are encouraged to unleash their creativity and “push the boundaries of performance and design” for the vehicle. Finalists will receive personalized coaching sessions with Polestar’s design team to refine their submissions before the final designs are submitted.

“Dreams have the power to inspire and transport us beyond what we thought possible,” Polestar head of design Maximilian Missoni said. “This is a chance for all participating designers to really push that Polestar envelope and let their imagination run riot.”

Designs will be judged by Missoni as well as Polestar senior design manager Juan Pablo Bernal and Polestar car design research director Sam Livingstone. The eventual Hot Wheels model made of the winning design will be made available for retail purchase. The winner will also receive a tablet and a selection of Polestar and Hot Wheels merchandise.
“Both Polestar and Hot Wheels dedicate time, energy and skill to ensure design is at the core of our vehicles,” vice president and global head of vehicle design at Mattel, Ted Wu added. “The Hot Wheels design team has always challenged the conventional approach and the Polestar Design Contest allows the design community to showcase their skills and wow us with something we have never seen before, and we cannot wait to see the submissions.”
Designers will be able to submit their entries between March 5, 2024, and April 16, 2024, before the final winner is announced in the fourth quarter of the year. If you’re interested, you can apply here.
