Audi Q9 Rendered To Reality, Makes The BMW X7 Look Even Uglier

The Audi Q9 has been eagerly awaited for quite some time and will finally provide the company with a direct rival to the BMW X7 and Mercedes-Benz GLS. Last month, we managed to capture a few spy photos of it, and it was these images that sparked the creation of these renderings, offering us a good idea of what the finalized version of the flagship SUV could look like.

Much like the X7 and GLS, the Q9 strikes an imposing figure and appears larger than the Q7. However, its front end design is relatively inoffensive, especially when compared to the BMW. Similar to other Audi models and many contemporary vehicles, the front end is characterized by a sizable grille, larger than the kidneys of the X7 but somehow less visually polarizing.

A split headlight design will also be adopted by the Q9, consisting of thin daytime running lights running below the shutline of the hood while located beneath these DRLs are the main headlamp clusters.

The stance and side profile of the Q9 depicted in these renderings by Kolesa make it appear a little sportier than the X7, thanks in part to the Audi’s sloping roofline and angular D-pillars. One particularly intriguing element of its design is the bulges above the rear wheels that flow neatly into the eye-catching LED taillights and light bar. The shape of these lights reminds us of those of the MG 4 but they look more premium.

Limited details about the Q9’s available powertrains are known at this early stage but there should be several mild-hybrid and plug-in hybrid options, possibly including a range topping SQ8 that could get the ever-present 4.0-liter twin-turbo V8.

The three-row luxury crossover that has been long sought after by American Audi dealers should arrive late next year as a 2026 model
