The impending demise of the Focus compact series will create a void in Ford’s lineup for budget-conscious hatchback enthusiasts who prefer not to opt for a crossover or SUV. Is there a chance Ford might fill this gap with an electric hatchback? While it seems improbable, designer Theottle has taken on the challenge by crafting his latest rendering with precisely this concept in mind.

The intriguing five-door hatch has similar proportions to the outgoing Focus and has been dubbed the E-Scort, a clever play on the famed Escort name which also hints at the vehicle’s electric powertrain. While the car is similar in size to the Focus, its design is very different.

Theottle has grafted the bodywork of the existing Mustang Mach-E onto the hatchback, alternating the shape so it still resembles Ford’s most recognizable EV while still having its own personality. It’s similar to what Tesla did with the Model Y, designing it to simply look like a slightly larger and more bulbous version of the Model 3. Much to our surprise, the key design details of the Mach-E work well on a Focus-sized hatchback.

Among the key changes made to the Mach-E’s shape are the widened headlights and taillights that look more appropriate for a vehicle of this size.

The eventual replacement (whether direct or indirect) to the Focus will be all-electric, like the vehicle depicted, but will probably be a high-riding crossover, rather than a hatchback.

Ford’s decision to kill off the Europe in 2025 will result in 3,500 staff at its plant in Saarlouis, Germany, losing their jobs. This factory had been in the running to build next-generation EVs for the brand but lost out to Ford’s plant in Valencia, Spain.
