Who’d have a performance car in a bustling city like New York? There’s just nowhere you can use the performance except for giving the occasional squirt of right pedal from the lights, and as for turning off the stability control to explore the on-limit handling, forget about it.

That might be the average New York driver’s experience of four-wheeled life in the Big Apple, but it’s not one familiar to the BMW M3 driver in this video. With an action cam strapped to his head to give us a full POV account of his trip through the center of NYC, he makes a mockery of city traffic, speed limits, red lights and, of course, cops.

But, while it makes for undeniably exciting viewing, be prepared to feel rather dirty afterwards if you’ve got any kind of moral fiber, like you’ve let your morbid curiosity get the better of you and clicked on a video of someone getting beheaded. Yeah, that dirty.

You say it’s just someone having some fun and no one got hurt? No, they didn’t, not on this occasion. But they could have done, and the minor spill the M3 has at the 3 minute 15 mark is a reminder that no matter how handy you are behind the wheel, the law of averages says you’re going to get it wrong at some point.

And that’s without accounting for someone – somebody’s mother, brother, girlfriend or son – stepping out into the road (when the crosswalk light says they’re legally entitled to). Next time, the pedestrians and other drivers of New York might not be so lucky.

Hopefully there are enough clues in this video – looks like a gray (possibly Brooklyn Grey, but we can’t be sure) 2023-on BMW M3 Competition automatic with a red interior to us – to help cops track him down, though of course it might not be the driver’s car. But how do you feel about videos like this? Are we pious killjoys or are we right to feel awkward about adding to this video’s already massive exposure? Drop a comment below and let us know.

But before you do that, check out this edited version of the M3 driver taunting cops in a Ford Explorer, drifting around them while they struggle to keep him in sight. To keep it all on-trend, someone has dubbed Wham’s Careless Whisper over the action, which seems to be the go-to soundtrack for crazy car videos right now, perverse as it may seem.
