For all their flaws, virtually every Alfa Romeo has managed to capture the brand’s magic, both in terms of styling and driver engagement. Therefore, the replacement for the Alfa Romeo Giulia will have some expectations to live up to. And, dare we say, for any lovers of the Italian marque’s thoroughbred chassis of yore, the fact it will be built on the same platform as the Dodge Charger probably doesn’t instill confidence — at least at first glance.
However, fear not, says Alfa. The underpinnings, known as Stellantis’ SLTA Large Modular Platform, allow for a great deal of flexibility. That means the wheelbase, overall length, height, and width of cars based on this platform can vary greatly, with the provision for different suspension pickup points, too.
This is particularly crucial because, at a whopping 206.6 inches or 5.25m, the Dodge Charger Daytona EV is longer than the BMW X7 SUV. The variability in the platform dimensions makes sense, though, as this BEV-native architecture is set to underpin at least eight new vehicles across various brands, including Jeep and Maserati.

And yes, we did say BEV-native. With advanced apologies to the anti-EV brigade, the new Giulia will be available in battery-electric form. But, if you’re not yet ready for an EV, the Italian sedan will be available in combustion flavor, too — just like the Charger. We don’t know what engines the Giulia will get just yet, but we know that hybrids are on the table.
And finally, the design. Alfa Romeo CEO Jean Philippe Imparato confirms it won’t be a rebadged Charger. Speaking to Motor1 Italy, Imparato was enthused with what the styling department has come up with. “What we designed is a bomb. We couldn’t finalize the style of this car without being absolutely in love with it. And now we are!” he told the publication. According to the CEO, the design has already been finalized, but we’ll have to wait until early 2026 to see it.
Before then, the new Stelvio will be launched in 2025. Looking beyond 2027, the SLTA Large Platform could yield an even larger E-segment SUV, or perhaps a BMW 5-series-fighting sedan. One thing’s for sure though: Alfa Romeo is, for the time being, sticking to offering multiple energy sources for its future lineup.
