  • Geely established Galaxy sub-brand in 2023
  • The new E5 SUV will join existing plug-in hybrid and battery-electric vehicles in Galaxy range
  • SUV could be offered with 62 kWh and 76 kWh battery packs.

Galaxy, one of the many sub-brands of China’s Geely, has teased its next model in the form of a battery-electric SUV. This new model is expected to launch at next month’s Beijing Auto Show and will hit the market alongside two small SUVs, an electric and a plug-in hybrid.

Three of the teasers depict the new model floating through space, fitting for a brand dubbed Galaxy. A blue wrap with black text hides many of the vehicle’s design details but some interesting elements are visible. These include a pair of sleek LED headlights and a front fascia without a traditional grille.

The side profile of the SUV is quite conventional with soft lines and attractive creases. You may also notice the door handles that sit flush with the bodywork and the star-shaped black and silver wheels. The rear of the SUV is also quite simple with LED taillights, a light bar, and flowing lines.

Geely Teases Electric E5 SUV From Its Space-Inspired Galaxy Brand

Little is known about the powertrain of the new model, either. However, we presume it could borrow that of the Galaxy E8, an electric sedan riding on a 400-volt platform in base form or a 800-volt platform in flagship spec. Entry-level versions of the E8 have a single motor at the rear axle with 200 kW (268 hp) while the range-topping dual-motor model has 475 kW (637 hp). The E8 is available with 62 kWh LFP, 76 kWh LFP, and 75.6 kWh LFP batteries.

The naming scheme of Galaxy’s existing models sees the ‘L’ badge used for plug-in hybrid models while the brand uses ‘E’ for its battery-electric offerings. These photos reveal the SUV will be dubbed the E5.

While the brand is only in its infancy and was formed 14 months ago, it already has 650 stores across China and sold 83,497 vehicles last year.
