The track-only De Tomaso P900 will have an exhaust system so beautiful, it could be put on display in an art museum. However, the exhaust, previewed in a series of photos shared on Facebook, will be instead bolted to a screaming, naturally aspirated V12.
The P900 will serve as the track-going version of the P72, a retro-inspired hypercar that has been years in the making and will finally reach production in the second half of this year. The car’s exhaust and headers appear completely symmetrical and run to a single collector that should lead into two tailpipes. It’s unclear what material De Tomaso is using for the P900’s exhaust but given the car’s $3 million price tag, we’re hoping it’s either Titanium or Inconel.

When De Tomaso first announced the P900 in late 2022, it said customers would be able to configure it with either a 6.2-liter V12 built by German engineering firm Capricorn or a V10 from a 1997 Benetton B197 Formula 1 car. The hashtags of these teasers only mention the V12 which could mean the V10 is no longer on the table. Either that or it will have a different exhaust.
Whatever the case may be, the flagship V12 is shaping up to be a work of art. De Tomaso says it will weigh just 220 kg (485 lbs) and rev to 12,300 rpm. That’s 200 rpm higher than the Cosworth V12 of the Gordon Murray T.50. The engine will support carbon-neutral synthetic fuel and power will be sent to the rear wheels through a sequential Xtrac transmission. It should be good for 888 hp. That’s plenty given the car will have a dry weight of just 900 kg (1,984 lbs).
The niche manufacturer will unveil the P900 this summer.
