This 1962 Toyota FJ40 Land Cruiser By ICON Is Dripping With Old-School Appeal

Few cars currently on the market have the legacy of the Toyota Land Cruiser and as impressive as the new 300 Series model is, we think this 1962 FJ40 model is even cooler.

This Land Cruiser has been listed up for sale on Collecting Cars and has been restored and modified by ICON in Los Angeles, which means it’s probably even better now than when it was new.

In transforming the Land Cruiser, ICON stripped it down to the chassis and proceeded to install a 2.8-liter turbocharged diesel four-cylinder engine that drives all four wheels through a five-speed manual transmission. Additionally, the bodywork has been powder-coated in Rocky Mountain Grey and the off-roader sits on 17-inch grey ‘American Racing’ wheels shod in BFGoodrich All-Terrain tires.

Various other upgrades were made to the FJ40. For example, there are new Hella halogen headlights, front and rear auxiliary lighting, and a WARN winch integrated into the front bumper. There is also an insulated double three-ply soft top as well as a portable air compressor.

Alterations continue into the cabin where ICON has clad most surfaces in black leather with grey textured Chilewich textile seat centers and matching carpets. The FJ40 also has an Alpine stereo with a SiriusXM receiver, amplifier, and iPod input, polarized sun visors, and a removable rear seat.

The listing notes that the bodywork is in pristine condition and that there are only a few minor scratches on the wheel arches and bumpers. The sale also includes manuals for the parts fitted, such as the winch, as well as ICON brochures, a removable Garmin Zumo satellite navigation system, and two sets of keys. The off-roader has been listed with 15,900 miles (25,588 km) but that’s presumably how many miles it has been driven since ICON worked on it rather how many miles it has raked up since leaving the Toyota factory.
