BMW is quickly growing its range of electric vehicles and CarWow recently decided to pit one of the company’s latest electric SUV up against an X7.
While the BMW X7 is quite a bit larger than the iX, it turns out that the X7 M50i is very well matched with the iX xDrive50 in terms of performance. However, which of them is actually quicker?
First, the specs. The iX xDrive50 is powered by an electric motorwith 268 hp and 260 lb-ft (352 Nm) of torque driving the front wheels that works alongside a rear electric motor with an additional 335 hp and 295 lb-ft (400 Nm). This results in a combined 516 hp and 564 lb-ft (764 Nm) and, according to BMW, is enough to send the electric SUV to 62 mph (100 km/h) in 4.6 seconds and through to a 124 mph (200 km/h) top speed.

By comparison, the X7 M50i is driven by a twin-turbocharged 4.4-liter V8 rated at 523 hp and 553 lb-ft (750 Nm). It is also all-wheel drive and can hit 60 mph in 4.5 seconds, just one-tenth quicker than the iX.
In a drag race between the two, the larger X7 gets a slight jump off the line but as the speeds start to build, the iX xDrive50 slowly pulls ahead. The iX ultimately ran the quarter-mile in 13.0 seconds compared to the 13.2 seconds needed for the X7.
A rolling race is then held between the two SUVs. Unsurprisingly, the instantly available torque of the iX allowed it to easily get the jump over the X7. However, as the iX is limited to 125 mph (200 km/h), the X7 can sprint through to 155 mph (250 km/h) so was able to speed past before the one-mile mark.
