Toyota Might Offer A GR Sedan, Could It Be A GR Camry?

Toyota’s GR lineup has grown to include the GR Supra, GR86, GR Corolla, and GR Yaris overseas. However, the company might not be done as a sedan could be on the horizon.

Speaking to MotorTrend, Toyota Motor North America’s executive vice president of sales, Bob Carter, said “stay tuned” when asked about the possibility of a GR sedan. While there have been rumors about a GR Corolla sedan, the publication thinks a GR Camry is a possibility.

We’re inclined to agree as Toyota already offers a Camry TRD and it would make sense to eventually replace it with a GR variant. While this remains to be seen, the Camry TRD was introduced in 2018 as a 2020 model.

Designed to be the most aggressive Camry ever offered, the sedan features an over-the-top body kit that includes a front splitter, aerodynamic side skirts, a rear diffuser, and a prominent spoiler. Other highlights include a cat-back exhaust, thicker underbody braces, and beefier front brakes. Those upgrades are joined by a sport-tuned suspension that features specially-tuned shocks and unique coil springs, which reduce the ride height by 0.6 inches (15 mm).

Those are nice upgrades, but the 3.5-liter V6 engine is shared with mainstream variants. As a result, its output remains unchanged at 301 hp (224 kW / 305 PS) and 267 lb-ft (361 Nm) of torque. However, that’s not too shabby considering the Hyundai Sonata N-Line has 290 hp (216 kW / 294 PS) and 311 lb-ft (421 Nm) of torque.

Only time will tell if a GR sedan is added to the lineup, but a GR crossover seems like a strong possibility given that the company has already introduced the bZ4X GR Sport concept. However, Carter suggested nothing was imminent as he said the company won’t have an electrified GR model in five months, but “quite possibly” in five years.
