Toyota confirmed that the C-HR will be phased out in the US and Canada after the current model year, with the similarly-sized Toyota Corolla Cross serving as an indirect replacement.
The Toyota C-HR Prologue concept was introduced a few days ago as a preview of the next generation C-HR set to arrive in Europe in 2023 offered in both hybrid and plug-in hybrid forms. Unfortunately, the next generation of the compact SUV won’t be offered to American and Canadian customers, who will have to stick with the more conservative-looking Corolla Cross if they want a Toyota-badged SUV of this size.

Speaking to MotorTrend, Toyota USA revealed that this is the end of the line for the C-HR in North America, confirming earlier rumors: “Effective following the 2022 model year, Toyota will discontinue sales of the C-HR in the U.S. and Canada. We are constantly evaluating our product lineup and we remain committed to the compact SUV segment. With the recent introduction of the Corolla Cross and Corolla Cross Hybrid, two great products that offer a great combination of utility and efficiency, and the best-selling RAV4, we are providing multiple options for compact SUV buyers.
The first-gen Toyota C-HR was introduced in North America for 2018 – initially planned to enter the market under the now-dead Scion brand. The model received a facelift for the 2020 MY, focused on styling and equipment updates. Unlike Europe and Japan, where the C-HR was available with self-charging hybrid powertrains, US and Canada were limited to the naturally-aspirated 2.0-liter four-cylinder engine producing 144 hp (107 kW / 146 PS) without any form of electrification.
The Toyota Corolla Cross is 3.9 inches (100 mm) longer than the C-HR, and is now available in both ICE and hybrid variants, offering a wider choice for American buyers.
