GAC published a series of teaser sketches of the Aion Hyper GT, a four-door EV that is set to debut on December 30 at the Guangzhou Auto Show with modern styling and plenty of technology.
The Aion Hyper GT is the second model to adopt the “Hyper” nameplate after the Aion Hyper SSR two-seater supercar that was unveiled last September. The electric Grand Tourer has an aerodynamic low-slung silhouette with four doors, two of which open upwards. The official sketches reveal a grille-less nose with aggressive LED headlights which are a cross between the Tesla Model 3 and the Ferrari GTC4 Lusso, sporty intakes on the sculpted bumper, and a short bonnet. The GAC Aion Hyper GT will also be the first model to introduce the brand’s new “Eros Arrow” emblem.

On the profile, the shape of the window-line towards the back is familiar, as a similar treatment has been used in the Lexus RZ, the Peugeot 408, and the Citroen C5X, although in a less extreme manner. The highlights though are the heavily inclined windscreen, the sloping roofline, the futuristic six-spoke alloy wheels, and the frameless doors. Moving over at the back there is an active rear spoiler, a sporty diffuser, and Acura-style LED taillights.
GAC didn’t publish any sketches of the presumably high-tech cabin that will likely have four seats. The Protoss architecture as the company calls it brings infrared technology which is said to be more reliable in detecting obstacles in bad weather conditions compared to a conventional radar and camera setup. The total number of sensors for the ADAS around the vehicle is said to be 39, including three lidars (one on the roof and two on the fenders).
The Aion Hyper GT will be based on GAC’s new AEP3.0 architecture. Reports from Chinese media suggest it will be offered in single-motor and dual-motor configurations, offering high levels of performance. It is also said to feature 480kW fast charging capability and battery-swapping technology. Despite all those high-tech features, the EV is rumored to start from around ¥300,000 (equal to $42,988 current exchange rates) when it goes on sale in China.

We will learn more about the GAC Aion Hyper GT in a few days at the Guangzhou International Auto Show, hoping that the real-life model looks as good as in the official sketches. The show will be held at the Pazhou Convention and Exhibition Center between December 30 and January 8 after being postponed due to a new outburst of the pandemic in the area.
Besides Aion, the GAC Group will also showcase models from its other brands including the self-owned Trumpchi, Ruqi Mobility (robotaxi brand) as well as the Chinese joint ventures with Honda, Toyota, and Mitsubishi.
