Genesis has come a long way in a short amount of time and it appears the company has green-lighted an ultra-luxury flagship.

Speaking with Automotive News, the chairman of the Genesis National Dealer Advisory Council said the X Convertible concept will be going into production.

Peter Lanzavecchia said the news was confirmed by Genesis chief creative officer Luc Donckerwolke, but little else is known about the company’s plans at this point.  However, Lanzavecchia is excited about the model as he told the publication it will be a “true halo flagship for the brand” and is going to result in a “lot of Bentley Continental convertible trade-ins.”

Genesis X Convertible Concept Reportedly Going Into Production

Lanzavecchia went on to suggest the production model could cost over $200,000 (£161,537 / €183,950) or even more than $300,000 (£242,306 / €275,925).  While that appears to be a guess, he said “I think production of that convertible would help put an exclamation point at the end of the sentence saying Genesis is a full real luxury brand.”  He also indicated production will likely be extremely limited, although that isn’t surprising.

While the news hasn’t officially been confirmed by Genesis, the X Convertible concept was unveiled last November as the third member of a family that also included the X and X Speedium Coupe concepts.  It featured a striking design and a retractable hardtop with “transparent moonroofs” above the front seats.  This promised to provide an open feeling even when the roof was closed.

Genesis didn’t provide many details about the concept, but the electric convertible featured a four seat interior with a digital instrument cluster that flowed into a vertical infotainment system.  The cabin also had leather seats and wool upholstery.
