The Mercedes-Maybach EQS will have a lightly revised exterior, but the biggest changes will be inside

Cadillac and Rolls-Royce were first out of the gate, but Mercedes-Maybach is planning an ultra-luxury electric vehicle of their own.
Previewed by a concept two years ago, the 2024 Mercedes-Maybach EQS SUV is instantly recognizable. However, the model sports an assortment of special touches to distance the flagship from its more mainstream counterpart.
The changes are most noticeable up front where the ultra-luxury crossover has a unique, fully enclosed grille. While it’s camouflaged, we can expect the grille to feature vertical bars similar to those found on the revamped lower intake.
Those aren’t the only changes as the crossover features a hood ornament just like the Mercedes-Maybach GLS. While the Mercedes star will grace the hood, the Maybach emblem will be found on the rear pillars. Additional changes will be limited, but the camouflage suggests we can expect revamped badging and a lightly modified bumper.
While it’s hard to get excited about the exterior updates, Maybachs are all about the interior. Spy photographers haven’t managed to get a good look inside, but the concept had two individual rear seats that were separated by a center console with an integrated infotainment system. Rear seat passengers should also expect to find an entertainment system, folding tables, and a refrigerated compartment.

Performance specs are more mysterious, but the model could be based on the EQS 580 4MATIC SUV. If that’s the case, we can expect a 108.4 kWh battery pack that powers a dual-motor all-wheel drive system producing a combined output of 536 hp (400 kW / 543 PS) and 633 lb-ft (857 Nm) of torque. This enables the crossover to accelerate from 0-60 mph (0-96 km/h) in 4.5 seconds, hit a top speed of 130 mph (209 km/h), and travel 285 miles (459 km) on a single charge.
