The Ford Mustang Mach-E significantly undercuts the Tesla Model Y in China

Ford has cut prices of the all-electric Ford Mustang Mach-E in China by a substantial 40,000 yuan ($5,700) through to the end of April.
The move means the Mustang Mach-E starts from 209,900 yuan (~$30,100) in China and should, in theory, help to drive up demand for the car. It also means the Ford Mustang Mach-E undercuts the Tesla Model Y significantly.
Indeed, the starting price for the entry-level Model Y in China starts at 311,900 yuan (~$45,000) while the flagship variant is available for 361,900 yuan ($51,978). The price cut may help Ford cut the gap between sales of the Mustang Mach-E and Model Y but actually overtaking the Tesla seems impossible. Indeed, Ford sold just 7,782 examples of its electric crossover in China last year while Tesla managed to shift 455,091 examples of the Model Y, Reuters notes.
Ford announced price cuts to the Mustang Mach-E in the U.S. back in January, resulting in savings of up to $5,900. In fact, prices for the GT Extended Range were slashed from $71,395 to $65,495 while the California Route 1 eAWD Extended Range also enjoyed a large price reduction of $5,580 to $59,495.

Strong demand for the Mustang Mach-E in markets around the world has prompted the car manufacturer to increase production. Changes made to the Mexican site that builds it will allow Ford to almost double its hourly production, meaning the site will be able to build as many as 210,000 units by the end of this year.

Additionally, Ford is ramping up production of the F-150 Lightning and E-Transit. It expects to build three times as many electric pickups this year as it did in 2022. Meanwhile, an additional 38,000 Transit and E-Transit models will be manufactured annually at its plant in Kansas City.
