This story includes a speculative Supra GRMN rendering based on the GT4 racecar which is not related to or endorsed by Toyota

Rumors about a more powerful variant of the Toyota GR Supra have been circulating the web for years, but their stubborn persistence makes them a bit more believable. The latest reports from Japan reheat the rumors about a Supra GRMN that could serve as a proper send-off to the current generation before the iconic nameplate moves to an EV-only future.

The shared underpinnings between the Toyota GR Supra and the BMW Z4 mean that the Japanese automaker could infuse more power into the sportscar by taking advantage of the BMW M parts bin. At the same time, Toyota could exploit the expertise of the Gazoo Racing department in terms of chassis tuning.

A fitting option for the powertrain would be the twin-turbo 3.0-liter inline-six from the hardcore BMW M4 CSL which makes 543 hp (405 kW / 551 PS) and 650 Nm (479 lb-ft) of torque. This output in combination with stiffer and lowered suspension, larger brakes, sharper steering, and a few weight-saving measures, would probably result in the fastest factory-spec Supra to date.

Such a potent sportscar would most likely gain a redesigned bodykit, improving both the styling aspect and the aerodynamic performance of the GR Supra accordingly. Expect version-specific bumpers, GRMN emblems, a larger rear spoiler, and new allow wheels.

Japan’s Best Car Web reports that the GRMN Supra could debut as early as the fall of 2023, although a few years ago the same publication talked about a 2020 debut. Note that the current, fifth generation of the Toyota Supra was originally introduced in 2019 and will allegedly stick around until 2025, before a rumored EV successor arrives in 2026.
