The Skyline SUV illustrations in this article are speculative and not affiliated with or endorsed by Nissan.

Few car model names are quite as iconic as the Nissan Skyline. While it has been associated with high-performance sports cars for decades, the nameplate has been used on re-badged Infiniti sedans in more recent years. However, that could soon change if a new report out of Japan is to be believed.

Like most other carmakers, Nissan is in the midst of a transformative period that will see it launch a plethora of EVs by 2030 and sadly for traditional car enthusiasts, it has reportedly decided to use the Skyline nameplate for a new EV. BestCarWeb asserts this model will take after the Nissan Ariya and be a crossover. Yes, the next Nissan Skyline could be an SUV powered by electricity.

Limited details are known about this new model but it could be badged as an Infiniti in North America. If the Skyline name will be used for this model, then it’s safe to say it won’t be used for the long-awaited replacement to the Nissan GT-R. However, we suggest taking this report with a pinch of salt as BestCarWeb is no stranger to making outlandish proclamations like this.

Next Nissan Skyline To Morph Into An Electric Crossover, Claims Japanese Report

If this rumored model turns out to be true then it would be underpinned by the same CMF-EV platform as the Nissan Ariya. The Japanese report adds that it could have two electric motors that combine to produce 450 hp and would use the same e-4ORCE all-wheel drive system of the Ariya. If the vehicle were to have 450 hp, that would give it a healthy power advantage over the flagship Ariya with its 389 hp.

As part of its electrification efforts, Nissan expects 98% of its sales in Europe to be made up of hybrid and battery-electric vehicles in fiscal 2026. The Japanese carmaker plans to introduce 27 electrified models, including 19 EVs by 2030 and believes that by this date, electrified vehicles will make up 55% of its global sales.
