A minor accident involving a Ferrari and an electric tricycle in China isn’t something that would usually make it in the headlines, but the kindness of the supercar driver is the reason it became viral. Despite the damage to the expensive vehicle, he reportedly accepted the tricycle driver’s apology and ¥190 ($26) for compensation.

The incident took place on August 15 in The Bund region of Shangai in China. The reportedly handicapped and elderly driver of a red electric tricycle scratched the yellow Ferrari F8 Spider which was stopped at a red traffic light. Following the minor collision, the Ferrari driver, named Gan, said that the tricycle driver tried to flee the scene but he managed to stop him in a nearby zebra crossing before calling the police.

When the officers arrived at the scene, they asked the elderly tricycle driver to assume full responsibility. China Daily reports that Gan agreed to accept “whatever compensation the driver could offer” as he understood he was unable to pay the full price, although other media claim that he asked for a specific amount. In any case, the tricycle driver got away with paying only ¥190 ($26) and giving his sincere apology to the Ferrari driver.

The negotiations were allegedly caught on camera, with the clip and the story going viral in China. People praised the Ferrari driver for keeping his calm and showing understanding to the elderly driver of the tricycle who was at fault.

As reported by South China Morning Post, the Ferrari F8 Spider was a rental that Gan was test-driving, which means that he will need to cover the full cost of the repairs from his own pocket when he returns it to the company. According to the same media, the cost is estimated to be ¥100,000 ($13,715), although other sources claim it is closer to ¥20,000 ($2,743).

It is not clear if the damage was limited to the supercar’s mirror, but this amount of money sounds excessive even for a vehicle that costs ¥4.5 million ($617,000) in China. What we know for sure is that the repair bill will definitely be a lot more than the ¥190 ($26) offered by the tricycle driver who will hopefully be more careful next time.
