The pictured single-seater electric hypercar is not just another rendering but the result of the 2022 Polestar Design Contest which is presented in full-scale prototype form at the IAA Mobility Show.

As suggested by its name, the Polestar Synergy is actually the combination of the three winning entries with input from the automaker’s design studio. Following its debut in Munich, the concept will be immortalized as a scale model, signaling the start of the collaboration between Polestar and Mattel that will also include Hot Wheels and Matchbox versions of its production models.

The theme of the 2022 Polestar Design Contest was sustainable performance, so we guess that the majority of the 600 entries were zero-emission sportscars, supercars, and hypercars. The exterior of the winning proposal is a combination of the design from Devashish Deshmukh and Swapnil Desai who are both based in Paris. On the other hand, the futuristic interior is based on the entry of Yingxiang Li from China. Merging the trio of winning entries into a single concept took no less than six months of work from the winners and Polestar’s design team.

Speaking about the concept, Polestar’s Head of Design, Maximillian Missoni, said: “This year, the story is as much about collaboration as performance. I’m proud that the team were able to guide and support the winners to realize their dream as a full-scale model. It’s not often student designers receive such exposure at the start of their career”.

The 1:1 scale model is a static representation of the electric hypercar with extreme proportions. The model measures 4.56 m (179.5 inches) long and only 1.07 m (42.1 inches) tall, with plenty of openings channeling the air around the bodywork. According to Polestar CEO, Thomas Ingenlath, the concept proves that EVs can be “just as, if not more, exciting than their ICE equivalents”. After being exhibited in Munich, the Polestar Synergy will embark on a US tour starting from the Hot Wheels Legends Tour in El Segundo, California on October 7.

Besides the aforementioned entries, the sustainability-focused go-kart from Polish designer Kamil Kozil also received an honorable mention. Polestar will announce details about the next Design Contest in due course.
