An Incredible Collection Of White, Low-Mile Porsche Classics Heads To Auction

I don’t know what your dream car collection would look like, but mine would be a fairly eclectic assortment with a bit of a bias towards certain brand and models, but plenty of variety. Some enthusiasts, however, are rather more single-minded in their approach to buying cars.

Take this haul of cars from a single U.S.-based collector that’s getting ready to go under the hammer of classic and exotic auction specialist RM Sotheby’s. Not only does it consist almost exclusively of Porsches, but virtually every one of the 56 cars is painted white. Here is a man who knows his own mind.

The collection was amassed over the course of a decade and is mostly made of rare, limited-volume Porsches that have covered very few miles. Naturally, 911s make up the bulk of the vehicular lots, and there are examples from every one of the model’s seven decades. The oldest is a 1965 coupe, and the newest is a 2021 Targa 4S Heritage Design Edition, with icons like a ’73 Carrera RS (both Touring and Lightweight versions), ’89 Speedster, and rare ’94 Turbo S ‘flat nose’ filling the space between.

The most valuable of the 911s is a 1993 Carrera RSR 3.8, one of 51 examples produced, and one of only two ‘strassenversion’ examples built for road use. Equipped with an optional twin-ignition Le Mans engine, air jacks, but also a luxurious red leather interior, it has covered only 44 miles (70 km) from new and carries a pre-sale estimate of $2-2.5 million.

It’s not all about the 911 though. There are half a dozen 356s, a 914, 924, 928, a couple of 944s, and even a pair of Porsche tractors. Star of the show though, is a 2015 918 Spyder with the optional Weissach pack that’s expected to go for $2.5-3 million.

There are a total of 556 sale items and it really is worth having a look through the full auction listing, because the collection includes everything from old Porsche posters and brochures to bicycles, Porsche took kits, steering wheels, vintage Becker and Blaupunkt radios, helmets, luggage and even an entire Microfiche system covering every model from the 356 to the Boxster.
