Back in September, Polestar revealed the Synergy, a “fantasy supercar” that was the result of its annual design contest. Presented to the world as a full-scale model, it seems the mock-up was so exciting that even Polestar now wants to do something with it.
The automaker was clear that the vehicle was a pure show car, and it still has no plans to put it into production. However, Maximillian Missoni, Polestar’s head of design, recently admitted that the concept is “something we should take further.”
“I’m not saying we’d do this, but we’d like to do this,” Missoni told Autocar. He added that such a model “would be very exciting” for the brand, especially “knowing the team would be capable” of engineering it.

Missoni also suggested that Polestar’s U.K. engineering team would be capable of making a low-volume supercar. Recently, it was responsible for the aluminum architecture that will underpin the Polestar 5 and 6.
The designer admitted that the Synergy would require a monocoque to make it work, so it couldn’t be based on the same platform, but said that Polestar has the “pull” to create a supercar. He added that it was “exciting and inspiring to see where the brand would go.”
Created by three teams of designers, selected from a pool of entrants who submitted ideas to the 2022 Polestar Design Contest, the Synergy is just 42.1 inches (1.07 meters) tall and 179.5 inches (4.56 meters) long. Envisioned as an all-electric supercar, we know from the Polestar 1 that the brand isn’t opposed to creating an exciting driver’s car.
We have known from the beginning that the car will go into production, sort of. The Synergy is being immortalized as a Hot Wheels toy, to mark the beginning of a partnership between Polestar and Mattel.
