Pagani has no intention of launching an all-electric performance car in the near future due to the heft of current battery packs and their limited suitability on racetracks.
The Italian manufacturer started researching the possibility of venturing into the world of EVs back in 2018. While the electric car industry has developed a lot since then and tech, in particular battery technology, has improved considerably, more work needs to be done.

Horacio Pagani and his son Christopher recently made a trip to Hong Kong for the Asia-Pacific launch of the Utopia. Christopher noted that batteries need to get lighter and charging times need to be improved before Pagani tries to make an EV work. “It’s so different that you are losing a little bit of fun,” he described.
During a recent interview with Bloomberg, Horacio Pagani noted that Chinese carmakers are leading the EV shift and can teach European brands a thing or two.
“[Chinese] car prices are cheaper than European brands, and therefore the producers of European cars need to pay a lot of attention and put a lot of effort in to try to remain in this specific market and stay competitive,” Horacio told the publication. “There are a lot of opportunities for the Chinese brands in the EV segment and actually they’re doing it very well when it comes to product and pricing.”
Pagani owners are likely going to welcome the news that the firm isn’t planning to follow the same path as many other car brands, at least not in the immediate future. Much like the Huayra that it replaces, the Pagani Utopia is powered by a 6.0-liter twin-turbocharged V12 sourced from Mercedes-AMG with 852 hp.
