While the next-generation Cadillac XT5 was initially expected to be made exclusive to the Chinese market, a new report claims there’s a chance the new model will also launch in North America.
Last year, GM president Mark Reuss revealed that the manufacturer was readying a significant update for the XT5 but said it would only be offered in China “as we move Cadillac in the United States to an all-electric brand.” Reuss added that the new XT5 would have a redesigned exterior and interior.
GM Authority now reports that this model is also being considered for North America. While the publication hasn’t cited any sources for its claim, offering the updated XT5 in markets other than China would make sense given that General Motors more broadly has said it is slowing the introduction of new battery-electric vehicles in its home market.

The new Cadillac XT5 is expected to be underpinned by GM’s C1-2 platform and heavily camouflaged prototypes snapped during testing in recent months have revealed that a host of significant changes are on the cards.

While GM has done a good job of hiding many of the key new design details, it seems apparent the updated XT5 will take some styling cues from the 2024 XT4. This could include the same vertically-stacked headlights, redesigned grille, and an altogether sleeker and more premium look. Plenty of changes will also be made to the cabin, including the fitment of a large new infotainment display.
The existing XT5 will be killed off in the U.S. at the conclusion of the 2024 model year. It’s offered with a turbocharged 2.0-liter four-cylinder and a naturally aspirated 3.6-liter V6. Details about the engines to be offered in the next-generation model remain uncertain.
