This is the latest SUV from BYD and if the success of the Atto 3 is anything to go by, it could prove to be a huge seller for the Chinese car manufacturer.

Images and details of the new model have surfaced online thanks to the country’s Ministry of Industry and Information Technology. It is known as the Yuan UP and takes the form of a five-seater that is 4,310 mm (170 inches) long, 1,830 mm (72 inches) wide, and 1,675 mm (65.9 inches) tall while sporting a 2,620 mm (103.1-inch) wheelbase. This makes it slightly smaller than the Atto 3 which is 4,455 mm (175.3 inches) long, 1,875 mm (73.8 inches) wide, and 1,615 mm (63.5 inches) tall.

Yuan UP Adds To BYD’s EV Dynasty As Its Latest SUV

Visually, the new SUV is quite different to the Atto 3 and two of BYD’s more recent EVs, the Seal and Dolphin, as it forms part of the ‘Dynasty’ series of models. The shape of the headlights reminds us of those of the Han EV sedan and the new Song L while the front bumper has a particularly noteworthy shape, looking a little like a rear diffuser. BYD’s designers look to have set out to make the Yuan UP look a little more rugged than the Atto 3, installing a set of black arches and black rocker panels. The shape of the C-pillars also catches the eye.

Spin around to the rear and we can see LED taillights connected by a light bar, two small spoilers stretching out from the roof, and a cute little rear wiper.

Local media reports that the SUV will come standard with BYD’s innovative Blade battery and be offered with a 94 hp (70 kW) electric motor for budget-oriented buyers or a 174 hp (130 kW) motor for those looking for some more grunt. The entry-level model should tip the scales at 1,430 kg (3.152 kg) while the flagship model weighs in at 1,540 kg (3,395 lbs). Acceleration figures aren’t yet known but the top speed should be limited to around 160 km/h (99.4 mph).

Interior photos of the new SUV have not yet been published. According to Car News China prices will start at less than 100,000 yuan (~$14,000).
