Back in September, Changan unveiled a new concept vehicle that combined all of the advantages of a crossover with the practicality of a pickup. Now, documents filed by the Chinese Ministry of Industry and Information Technology have revealed that it was more than just a concept.

More or less unchanged from the show car, the Changan Qiyuan E07 is a bit like a Hyundai Santa Cruz or the Honda Ridgeline, in that it is a unibody pickup with SUV design. However, with a sliding glass panel that fully encloses the bed, the new electric modelseeks to close the gap between trucks and SUVs.

At 199 inches (5,054 mm) in length, it’s about three inches (75 mm) longer than a Hyundai Santa Cruz. That gives the E07 ample room for five occupants, though the length of the bed has not yet been revealed.

The Funky Changan Qiyuan E07 Is Part SUV, Part Truck, And All Electric

Similarly, the size of the batteries has not been made public, so we don’t have an idea yet of how far it will be able to travel between charges. However, Changan has revealed that the E07’s electric motor will make 338 hp (252 kW/343 PS), and can reach a top speed of 125 mph (201 km/h). Autohome reports that a dual-motor version is coming, with a combined output of 590 hp (440 kW/598 PS), and a top speed of 130 mph (210 km/h).

Images of the concept version of the truck indicate that Changan Qiyuan wants the E07 to be a practical premium vehicle. With tents set up for glamping and fancy-looking luggage, the vehicle doesn’t seem too concerned with transporting sheets of plywood. However, with attractive design, and the promise of room for carrying large items of, say, furniture, it may appeal to well-heeled buyers with an “active lifestyle”.
