Production of the V10-powered supercar was originally scheduled to cease at the end of 2023

The final Audi R8 will roll off the production line at the end of March, closing the chapter on one of the industry’s finest mid-engined supercars and one of the remaining few offered with a high-revving, naturally-aspirated engine.
In 2019, Audi announced that the R8 would be discontinued at the end of 2023 but it was recently revealed that the car is still in production at the firm’s Böllinger Höfe factory. In a statement, Audi TT and R8 spokesperson Liza Kellner noted that while production is still ongoing, it will end next month.
“It is true, the last Audi R8 will leave the production line at the end of the first quarter of 2024,” Kellner confirmed to Motor1. “This marks the end of the production of an iconic sports car at the Audi Böllinger Höfe site in Neckarsulm. The all-electric Audi e-tron GT will continue to be built at the Böllinger Höfe. As part of our strategy, which has the clear objective of electrifying the entire product portfolio, we have decided to withdraw the R8 from the program at the end of the first quarter of 2024.”

“The statement that the R8 will be discontinued at the end of 2023 dates back to 2019,” Kellner added. “From this point of view, it is not surprising that the actual end date has changed by a few weeks.”
The final iteration of the R8 introduced in most markets takes the form of the GT RWD introduced in late 2022. It is capped at just 333 units worldwide and features a 5.2-liter naturally-aspirated V10 with 612 hp and 417 lb-ft (565 Nm) routed through the rear wheels. Interestingly, Audi launched another limited-run model two months ago with the R8 Coupe Japan Final Edition, capped at just eight examples.
With the end of the R8 just around the corner, it appears shoppers are eager to lock in an allocation before it is killed off. Last year, Audi sold 631 new R8s across the United States, more than double the 314 sold in 2022 and a higher figure than those sold in 2020 and 2019.
