Few names in the history of Japanese cars have quite the same cult following as the Nissan Skyline, and while it’s a name best associated with sports cars, it has been used on JDM sedans for the past two decades. If the latest report is to be believed, the 14th generation of the Skyline will morph into a battery-electric vehicle sold in both sedan and crossover guises.
This is not our first time learning about the future of the iconic Nissan nameplate. In mid-2023, we heard the first rumblings about the Skyline becoming an electric crossover, news that was no doubt disheartening to all JDM enthusiasts out there. Fast forward to February 2024 and the same Japanese publication asserts Nissan will also sell the new Skyline as a sedan, in addition to the aforementioned crossover.

The report comes from BestCarWeb, a site that is no stranger to making bold and often unsubstantiated claims about future models. While we suggest taking this report with a grain of salt, it is interesting to ponder the possibility of electric Skyline sedan and crossover models being introduced by Nissan. The site claims the new models could both launch next year.
From a visual standpoint, the new Skyline sedan may take design inspiration from the striking Infiniti Vision Qe concept while the SUV could be similar to the yet-to-be-revealed Vision QXe concept. Like the Qe concept, the Skyline sedan may adopt a four-door fastback style.
Little is known about the new Skyline’s powertrain but it could share its twin electric motors and e-4ORCE all-wheel drive system with the Ariya crossover, albeit modified to produce approximately 450 hp. That’s plenty of power and would make both variants very rapid in a straight line and give it a modest advantage over the current flagship Skyline with its 399 hp.
