OnePlus Watch 2 launched globally: A Wear OS smartwatch with over 2-day battery life

OnePlus entered the smartwatch space with the first-gen OnePlus Watch. But the company oversold the “smart” in smartwatch, as the first-gen device ran on a simpler RTOS platform without an app store. Three years later, the company is back with a true smartwatch with Wear OS, but surprisingly, it isn’t letting go of RTOS either. This is the OnePlus Watch 2, and its unique dual-architecture setup and massive battery help it become the Ultra smartwatch on the Wear OS side of things.

The highlight of the OnePlus Watch 2 is certainly its dual-engine architecture. It comes with the Qualcomm Snapdragon W5 Gen 1 chip alongside a BES2700 co-processor. The Snapdragon powers Wear OS 4 on the watch, while the co-processor handles RTOS functionality in power-saving mode.

You can run the watch in Smart Mode with full Wear OS features and all smartwatch functions or run it in a power-saving mode where it works like an RTOS fitness tracker with access to health tracking functions and your phone’s notifications (but no Wear OS app functionality).

OnePlus went even crazier, packing this large 47mm diameter smartwatch with a 500mAh battery. In Smart Mode, you can get up to 100 hours of battery or over 48 hours with heavy usage and all features enabled. You can also get over 12 days of battery life in power-saving mode with RTOS functionality.

As we note in our OnePlus Watch 2 review, the watch lasted us 53 hours on a single charge in Smart Mode, with the always-on display and all advanced health features enabled and many workouts packed in.

If you run out of juice, you can charge the smartwatch to 100% in 60 minutes with 7.5 VOOC fast charging. The watch charges through a magnetic cradle, and unlike many other smartwatches, the cradle plugs into a standard USB-C port, so you can continue using the cable you use with your USB-C smartphone.

Other highlight specifications of the OnePlus Watch 2 include a 1.43-inch AMOLED display with a resolution of 466 x 466 pixels and a 2.5D sapphire crystal cover, 2GB of RAM with 32GB of internal storage, a stainless steel case that supports 22mm straps, dual-frequency GPS, IP68 water and dust resistance, and more. The OnePlus Watch also supports tracking for over 100 sports and can track health stats like sleep, stress levels, blood oxygen, and more.

Since it is a Wear OS smartwatch, the OnePlus Watch 2 remains compatible with all Android smartphones. You will need to use the OHealth app to connect your phone to your watch. However, like other Wear OS smartwatches, the OnePlus Watch 2 is not compatible with iPhones and iOS.

The OnePlus Watch 2 will be available globally in Radiant Steel or Black Steel colors. You can buy it in the US for $299.99. Pre-orders begin today, with open sales starting March 4, 2024, for OnePlus.com and March 11, 2024 for Amazon.
