March almost came and went without one of the delights that automotive enthusiasts with a PlayStation look forward to every month: the Gran Turismo 7 free update. But the wait was worth it for fans of endurance racing, V10 engines, and, curiously, anime.

Three new cars have been added to the racing simulator as part of the March update. The 1999 Toyota GT-One (TS020), the 2018 Lamborghini Urus, and the 2016 Audi R8 Coupe V10 Plus.

Although the Toyota GT-One didn’t succeed in winning an overall victory at the 24 Hours of Le Mans, it was the quickest car at the race over a single lap, and earned pole position and second position for the race in 1999. The car also eventually took first in the GTP, but it finished second overall after its attempt to chase down the race leader was hampered by a late-race tire blowout.

Back in the realm of road cars, the 2016 Audi R8 V10 Plus is being introduced just days after production of the car ended in the real world. Powered by a naturally-aspirated 5.2-liter V10 engine, the Plus made 602 hp (449 kW / 610 PS) and could hit 62 mph (100 km/h) in just 3.2 seconds.

Finally, the Lamborghini Urus will likely be a popular selection on the game’s new snow track. Powered by a 4.0-liter twin-turbocharged V8 that makes 641 hp (478 kW / 650 PS), it is also no slouch on the tarmac.

In addition to the cars, Gran Turismo is also partnering with the upcoming Japanese anime series motorsport, “Highspeed Etoile.” For a limited time, the game will offer preset decals of the show’s characters and its logo in the livery editor.

Finally, the game will also get a new backdrop for the photo mode that takes place among the cherry blossoms of Fukushima, a Jaguar racing challenge will be added to the single-player Cafe mode, and new races will be added to the World Circuits menu.

Officially called Update 1.44, the new content will be ready to download on March 28, 2024, and will be added at no cost.
