One of the coolest examples of machine learning on mobile has to be Google’s Live Caption feature. This brings captions to any content with audio, such as podcasts, recorded videos, YouTube clips, and more.
It’s been available on a variety of Android phones since 2019, but is it something you use? That’s the topic of our featured question today.
Do you use Live Caption on your smartphone?

Live Caption isn’t perfect, but it’s a wonderful addition for hearing-impaired people. It’s also handy if you’re like me and prefer reading subtitles to cranking the volume up to the max. The feature is also useful if you’re in a situation where cranking the volume up might be frowned upon and you don’t have earphones with you (i.e. public transport, an Uber trip, restaurant).
Interestingly enough, Microsoft has also confirmed that it’s testing its own version of Live Caption in preview builds of Windows 11. But our question focuses on smartphones though, so give us your answer above and leave a comment if you have more to share.
